There is nothing more exotic or breathtaking than an indoor vertical garden. A green wall of lush, living plants in your home, business or entertainment space is wild and classy all in one. But a vertical garden also begs a number of questions. Living Green Walls has been an expert in the field of indoor plants and vertical gardens nearly 8 years and we have the answers to some of your most pertinent questions.

How long do living walls last for?

The perception can often be that a living green wall, or vertical garden, is a short-lived experience, much like a potted plant we have been trying to keep alive. Living walls are like any plant in that they need do ongoing care, but the difference is that the proper ongoing care will allow them to last for years on end.

The rule is simple: if the plants are getting all the elements they need to survive then a living wall can easily be a lifetime experience.

While it’s true that nothing lasts forever, it’s important to understand the value which a living green wall holds in the framework of the owner. Drawing on the analogy with some other kind of property, for example a house or car, will help in understanding the value of a living wall. All of these require good services, parts to be replaced and steadfast maintenance. If the rule of thumb is consistent upkeep, then whatever we choose to possess and maintain well, can be expected to last a lifetime.

What system are you creating to ensure that the plant is getting those elements?

At Living Green Walls we take careful time and consideration to look at the location of the plants and ask some of these questions:

  • Will they have enough space to grow?
  • Will they get an adequate light?
  • Will they receive adequate levels of water and nutrients?

The water supply is vital, and we ensure that the vertical garden has a pump to feed the plants to ensure it maintains adequate supply.

Can any plant survive on a living wall??

In theory, yes. If a plant gets what it needs, then it will grow. But the more important question to ask is if the chosen environment for a vertical plant wall is conducive for the plant you have chosen? So, a succulent plant from an Arab desert region requires whatever conditions it was removed from to be replicated in an indoor plant wall space. A living plant wall is merely elevating a plant from its natural position, all that needs to happen is  to ensure it meets the right conditions.

And yet, in many ways, it’s not as simple as it sounds. Our work with indoor plants is extensive and technical. Unfortunately, it isn’t as simple as installing a home DIY effort, and hope by trial and error it may work. Our plant palette choices are specific for every wall we install with the sound knowledge of which plants will thrive best in that unique environment.

This is what makes us unique

The reality is we know what plants work and what plants don’t work indoors and outdoors. Over the years, we have learnt through trial and error. We are indoor and outdoor plant experts. We can add a spin on design, but our choice of plants is well-researched and selected.

Every plant living on the wall falls into its own biome or little environment. We ensure that the biome is consistent for every plant that is planted. Each plant matches every other plant in their environment. One cannot simply mix and match for affect. And this is where the fuss of trying on your own will often leave you disheartened. We are unique experts in indoor plant walls, and we can make your living vertical garden a reality. And not for a day or a month, but for a lifetime.
