Earlier this month, Living Green Walls collaborated with product and graphic design studio, Lemon Décor, at the opening of the studio’s stunning new offices in Kramerville. The idea was to create a transient or semi-permanent art gallery that was to display a variety of art pieces, including a living wall specifically designed by Living Green Walls. The idea was to display these artistic pieces for a period of time therefore offering a gallery space to local artists and designers. 200 guests ranging from interior designers, architects and artists, sipped on speciality cocktails and gin while enjoying lively conversation, surrounded by some of the most inspiring art in the country.
Designer and director of Living Green Walls, Sean O’Connor, describes this project’s design as one of his favourite living wall designs to date. The 7.8m x 4m vertical garden was strategically positioned near a mild steel-framed window with the aim of screening off an unsightly neighbouring building. The position of this vertical garden was further enhanced by the old-style windows with large window panes, allowing ample natural light to cascade on the lush greenery. Due to the event being in the evening, additional lighting was mounted to promote the existing natural beauty of the living wall. The Living Green Walls team used the Modular Vertical Garden system – a firm favourite amongst the team – to create this living piece of art and were able to install the entire wall within two days.
Not only did this vertical garden create an exquisite new view, it reaffirmed the reality that creating living, breathing art in an interior space is possible. This event launched living walls as living art pieces, and celebrated Living Green Walls’ remarkable achievement of installing over 100 vertical gardens (and counting!) in under 5 years. That’s 56 000 plants in 1600m2 of coverage – living, breathing proof that we are the leading vertical garden specialists in South Africa.
